Here is a photo of us in front of Volcàn Lanín. We climbed for a couple of hours to the point where snow and ice began. Beyond that, you need a guide and technical equipment. The tree on the right looks like a bonsai tree. It is growing on volcanic ash near Lanin. I took the photo while we were on a boat tour of the area.
